Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) Review

Directed by  Dominique Othenin-Girard

Starring Donald Pleasence and Danielle Harris

Plot: Michael Myers escapes death from dynamite by floating down a river. He’s rescued and cared for by an old hermit. One year passes and Michael wakes up, he kills the hermit. Michael’s niece, Jamie (Harris) can see everything that Michael does. The only person who believes her is Dr. Loomis (Pleasence). Michael comes and kills Jamie’s stepsister who survived Myers one year earlier.

We are introduced to a new set of characters. Michael wears a different mask and drives one of the characters around. Which is pretty funny. Jamie continues to have visions and collapses from all of the stress. Tina (newbie character) comes and assures her that everything will be okay. She then goes off to a Halloween party. Michael shows up and kills a few folks. He even tries to kill Jamie and fails. She gets away but Tina is killed. Jamie is taken to the Myers house and used as bait for Michael.

Michael causes a diversion, causing all the deputies to leave the house unprotected. Dr. Loomis just loses it. He holds a remaining cop at gunpoint, he leaves and confronts Michael. Loomis is cut and thrown. Michael kills the officer protecting Jamie, she’s able to escape. There’s a chase through the Myers house that ends with Loomis doping Michael up and beating him with a 2×4. Michael is imprisoned, but with the help of a mysterious stranger, he escapes..to kill again.

Review: It’s pretty bad. The mask is too awkward. Pleasence is great in this. The only character that was worth anything. He just loses his cool. It’s definitely awesome. Other than that, it’s poo.
