‘Tis the season! This is the first Christmas horror film I’ve watched at the theater. This flick is from Michael Dougherty, he brought us “Trick ‘r Treat”. It’s about a family spending time together during the holidays, but there is an uninvited guest. Krampus, an ancient entity. I’m familiar with the Krampus legend. This, of course, isn’t the first Krampus film. There’s about 2 other flicks this year that features the creature. I haven’t seen those, but will get around to those eventually. This was a fun movie, it was very creative and imaginative. Something that has really been missing from horror films now. It is being compared to Gremlins and while I don’t agree with that, it’s cool that something can be watched by the entire family.
The film is a nice look at Christmas and the overall feeling that we have become disconnected with the holiday. Like. I said earlier, it’s very imaginative. Horror in recent years has become nothing but found footage or remakes or demonic possession films. So, this is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend this film. I hope it does well enough to warrant a sequel.
