Creed (2015) Review

Directed by Ryan Coogler

Starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone

Plot: The son of Apollo Creed (see Rocky IV) Adonis wants to follow in his father’s footsteps. So, he gets the help of legendary boxer, Rocky Balboa to train him.

Review: I caught this back in November of 2015 and I really enjoyed it. With this rewatch, I enjoyed it a lot more. The film has many little nods to the past Rocky films and it’s awesome to catch those. But, this doesn’t rely on nostalgia to get you in. The story is very strong. One man’s journey to become like his father and all of the obstacles that come with it. The actor playing Creed (Jordan) does really well, but the films strongest performance is that of, Sylvester Stallone (who was cheated out of an Oscar).

This film was directed by Ryan Coogler, who is apparently a huge fan of the series, so it was nice for it to be in the hands of someone who respect the films. I’m looking forward to more of the story.
