Well, this weekend sees the return of Superman and for the first time in this universe, Batman. We’ve been waiting for this film for three years. We see Ben Affleck step into the role of the Caped Crusader. I’ve been anticipating this one since that comic con footage was released of Batman turning on the bat signal.
I caught a screening earlier and decided to think about this a bit before writing something. So, if you haven’t seen it, don’t read on.
I thought the film was okay for this universe. It started off like I expected with the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents. They’ve been killed more times than Phil from Groundhog Day. Funny that they are played by Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, so that’s some Walking Dead coming at ya.
Anyway, I liked the beginning of the film. It gets a bit lost in the middle, but has some fun stuff. Bruce Wayne has a nightmare about the Flash warning him of the future. Of course, Wonder Woman is on the film. Cyborg and Aqua-Man had quick cameos.
The film is heavily influeneced by the Dark Knight Returns. You can tell. Superman has a nuke explode near him, which makes him a weak little guy until he regains his powers by the sun.
The film has faults. It kinda felt like they tried to cram everything into the last half. For instance, the battle against Doomsday and the “death” of Superman. Of course, the cameos by the other Justice League members felt out of place.
Overall, the film was very entertaining. I enjoyed it and I think Affleck did very well as Batman. Batman was a badass on this. I’m honestly not too interested in the DC universe, but I’ll watch most of the movies someday.
