Parents (1989) 31 for 31 Review

Directed by Bob Balaban

Starring Randy Quaid and Mary Beth Hurt

Synopsis: A young boy in the 1950s acts strange unlike other kids. His mother and father act ever more strange. He sneaks to his father’s work and learns the chilling and disturbing truth!

Review: One film that I saw as a kid and I remember one certain scene. I watched this many years ago online, but decided to give it another watch recently. The film fits that bizarre 1950s setting. Quaid and Hurt are good together, they have certain quirkiness about them. The film has many decent moments of suspense which the film builds on very well. Quaid’s character changes while the film progresses and he becomes more and more sinister. Can’t say much without spoilers, let’s just say there are disturbing moments with food. Very weird.
