The Dark Tower (2017) Review

Directed by Nikolaj Arcel

Starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey

Synopsis: A young boy has many visions of a distant world with a tower that is always being attacked by the Man in Black (McConaughey). He also dreams of the Gunslinger who is at odds with the Man in Black. The young man hops through a portal to find the Gunslinger. We find out that the MIB wants to use those with “shine” powers to destroy the tower, so he can rule the world. It’s a fight to stop the apocalypse!

Review: I never read any of the novels in this particular series. I am to understand that folks really like those and don’t like this movie because it’s not exactly like the book. I can understand that, I for one, enjoyed this film. It was not a perfect film but it did what it could in its short runtime. It was great to see McConaughey in a villainous role again (the best part about TCM: The Next Generation). Elba did very well and had plenty of great moments. Little quick cameo stuff was an added bonus. (The Police song from Cat’s Eye played on the radio on my way to the film!)

Main problem was its runtime. Just felt like once the film began, it ended. But it was still a fun movie and one that don’t really deserve the hate it’s getting. That’s just me though.
